These photographs, taken between 2001
and 2006, are part of an on going self-portrait project that began as
somewhat of a joke and ended up becoming a very important part of my
life, if not the most important one. For most people, photography is
either a substitute or a help for memory. Concept wise, my photos are
closer to a photo album than to an art gallery. They constitute, however,
a different kind of album, one who collects small moments by representing
not their real contours but the emotions and thoughts they arise. It’s
a documentation of moods, required and un-required love stories, lucky
days and rainy ones. It’s also a form of psychoanalysis, catharsis
and self-knowledge. This is my way of dealing with problems, indecisions,
impossibilities. Each person has its own universe, its own imaginary,
more important than the mundane day-to-day routine. It’s as if
our body were a door to a different world, as if each and every single
one of us had its own solar system. And if I’m letting you in,
it’s because I don’t always like to be alone.
